In recent developments, Gyrodata Ltd. has fallen prey to a ransomware attack that reportedly compromised the organization’s current and former employee data.

Reported ransomware attack:

Gyrodata Ltd is an American oil mining organization and the Houston-based corporation claims to be one of the world’s leading suppliers of technology and services designed to extract hydrocarbons from the earth.

Detailing the ransomware attack on Gyrodata, it was published in the former week that the oil mining organization had suffered the ransomware attack that was discovered on February 21.

Lacking Details:

Currently, there are no details regarding the impact or disruption of the ransomware attack on Gyrodata, however,  it was disclosed that a potential threat to the company’s former and current employee data included personal and financial details.

“Gyrodata’s investigation determined that the unauthorized actor gained access to certain systems and related data within the Gyrodata environment at various times from approximately January 16, 2021, to February 22, 2021,” noted the oil mining organization.

The corporation has reported that an unauthorized, illegal third party had apparently gained access to some internal network systems and related data of the company.

The access was obtained by a potential malicious actor at various instances between January 16, 2021, to February 22, 2021.

“The data potentially obtained by the unauthorized actor may have contained personal information of current and former Gyrodata employees, including names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, W-2 tax forms, and information related to health plan enrolment” noted Gyrodata. 

Addressing impacted employees:

The company reportedly employs around 1000 workers and personnel. As for the employees impacted in the ransomware attack, the company affirms that they have been contacting and engaging with each individual and has launched a dedicated call center to deal with fallouts. 

Gyrodata is also offering individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services whose social security number or driver’s license numbers may have been exposed.

The ministry organization has also forewarned potentially impacted individuals against cyber threats like identity theft or fraud by keeping tabs on account statements and credit reports to mitigate any cyber risks.
