During the first half of2021, over 6.07 lakh cybersecurity incidents were detected in the country, according to Parliament.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, stated in a written reply to the Lok Sabha that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) is tasked to detect and monitor cybersecurity incidences in India.

In 2019, 2020, and 2021 (through to June), CERT-In reported a total of 3,94,499, 11,58,208 and 6,07,220 cybersecurity incidents, respectively.

In addition, CERT-In regularly issues warnings and advisories about the newest cyber threats/vulnerabilities and countermeasures to safeguard computers, networks, and data, according to the minister.

Chandrasekhar responded to a second query by saying that the ministry has no plans to revise the IT intermediary regulations, which were created after extensive public engagement and input from many stakeholders.

The regulations were created to guarantee that digital platforms are accountable to their users and to require that big social media intermediaries do more due diligence.

When asked about the exploitation of specific sites for online prostitution, Chandrasekhar stated the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had received some complaints.

He also claimed that the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which is part of MeitY, has created an indigenous instant messaging service called Sandes.

As a result of Sandes being an Open Source, Secure, Cloud-enabled platform, the strategic control stays with the Government of India. Among its features are private and group messaging, file and media sharing, audio/video calling, as well as interaction with e-government applications.

In addition, Chandrasekhar said that the solution is being utilized by the government and is available on Google Play and the App Store.
