In another significant ransomware news, Toshiba was hit by the DarkSide ransomware attack, which accounts for the cybercriminals’ second ransomware headlines this week.
Toshiba prey of malicious DarkSide:
Toshiba has reported that one of the European units of the tech Corp. has fallen prey to the DarkSide ransomware attack.
Toshiba Corp is a tech device manufacturing giant that makes products ranging from barcode scanners, printers to Point-of-Sale(PoS) systems and electrical equipment.
The cyberattack that targeted Toshiba directly impacted its French unit that is one of its numerous units across the globe.
Subsequently, the detection of the ransomware led to the shutting down of network systems between Japan, Europe, and its subsidiaries to “prevent the spread of damage” while recovery protocols and data backups were implemented.
Impacts and cybersecurity concerns:
The ransomware attack impact of Toshiba is currently under investigation to analyze the exact reach and impact of the cyberattack.
“We have not yet confirmed that customer-related information was leaked externally,” states the Toshiba unit.
The aftermath of the cyberattack has raised concerns regarding the data that was compromised.

Although the tech corp has expressed a possibility that only a limited amount of internal data and information may have been leaked, reports from trusted security sources have stated that a significant amount of sensitive data may have been accessed.
Some of the alleged reports disclose that stolen passport scans alongside project documents and work presentations have been accessed.
Allegedly, over 740 GB of data was stolen from Toshiba that was claimed in a post on May 13.
Malicious DarkSide ransomware:
DarkSide is a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) outfit that provides ransomware to affiliates within its network in return for a cut of any profits made by extorting victim organizations.
The news of the Toshiba ransomware attack by DarkSide comes only days after the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack made major news headlines, which was also perpetrated by the FarkSide ransomware.
